Our
Vision
The Young Singers Foundation feels a well-rounded education for
our young people should include music. Without the opportunity to
participate in music programs, youngsters are deprived of unique
opportunities to develop their creativity, to learn self-discipline
and team work, to increase their sense of self-worth, and to learn
to live in a global society.
The need grows bigger every day, as more and more music programs
are being reduced or eliminated by school systems that struggle
to apportion available funds among required curriculum, extra-curricular
and elective programs, payroll, and operating expenses.
We also advocate the teaching of music in the schools. By its example,
YSF hopes to show the way for generous and growing support for music
education and music educators among those in kindergarten through
12th grade. We also endorse
the music education standards set by the Music Educators National
Conference (MENC).
Our
History
The Young Singers Foundation was created by Sweet Adelines International
in 1992. Early on, the Foundation's Management Committee determined
the purpose was to enrich the lives of young people through educational
programs in vocal music: scholarships; grants to school-based music
programs; and funding to after-school and community vocal music
activities for young people.
The Young Singers Foundation is profoundly grateful for support received from Sweet Adelines throughout the nation and around the world and is committed to maintaining and building on that spirit in the future.
